When we started our day, we had no idea what to expect. It was a unique day, and we had a lot of new experiences. First, we left to explore with kayaks. We drove about 45 minutes on our bus, and then the group, including McConnell and Luis, was in the countryside, and we learned about the rules to use kayaks. We walked to the lake, and there was a large hill with a lot of sand. It was easier to walk down, but it was very difficult to climb up after kayaking because everyone was really tired. We all needed to wear life jackets, and we kayaked with partners. We had two tour guides, and we explored in the area "Hoces de Duratón” which is a nature preserve. Also, there were two types of vultures, Egyptian Vultures and Griffin Vultures. They can grow to have a wingspan of almost 8 feet, which is really big for a bird! We learned about the 500 year old monastery at the water’s edge, and there were a lot of ancient buildings close to the lake area. Since we all wore our swimsuits, we had the opportunity to swim and take pictures in the lake. It was really relaxing after that workout! It was really pretty, and the landscape was incredible.
After the adventures with the kayaks, we boarded the bus and visited a special restaurant. The name was Mesón Riscal, and we were able to cook ox meat at our table. First, we started with a hot plate and we used the animal’s fat on the plate before we cooked. It was seasoned with large chunks of sea salt, which was delicious with the meat. The whole process to cook took about thirty seconds, and the meat was both incredible and tender. A lot of the group had never eaten ox meat before this and nearly everyone in the group liked it. We ate a lot, and most of the group slept on the bus after this lunch. It was a very fun excursion and we made lots of memories!
