Today we visited the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. It was a great experience to be able to see contemporary modern art recognized around the world. We saw famous works of art including the Guernica by Pablo Picasso. The Guernica was completed in June of 1937. It is an oil based painting of gray, black and white. It is about 11 feet long and 25 feet wide. The painting was meant to symbolize a representation of Spain after the bombing of Guernica. Pablo Picasso has many of his other pieces in this museum including Buste de Femme Souriante and Mujer en Azul. Overall, Pablo Picasso has greatly influenced art in his abstract and genuine styles.
We also go to see some amazing pieces of art created by Salvador Dali, another famous artist from Spain. He is most recognized for his bizarre and striking painting making him an unforgettable painter. An elephant is his favorite symbol to put in his paintings which can be found in a couple different paintings of his. One of his more interesting paintings is called Invisible Man. There is so much going on that it doesn't look like it actually goes together, but the longer you stare the more everything comes together and you can actually see the invisible man. Try and find him! Some other paintings of his found in the museum are Visage du Grand Masturbateur, Autorretrato Cubista, and more. After the museum, we had a little bit of free time, but overall it was another successful visit to Madrid.
