¡Vamos a Barcelona! Today was a long day of travel but was well worth it once we got to the big city of Barcelona. We all met at the bus station bright and early and were on our way. After stopping in Madrid to get on the AVE, which is a high speed train, we were only 3 hours away. Once we arrived to our hostel, we knew this weekend was going to be interesting, being crammed into a room filled with 5 bunk beds. Needless to say, we got to know each other a little better this weekend. We immediately went into the city for dinner which was great and much needed after all that travel. Of course since it was our first night, we explored the busy city and ended up watching the sun rise on the beach. It was a great first day but there was so much more to do. On Friday woke up early and visited the typical tourist attractions. First, we went to the Sagrada Familia which is a basilica in the center of the city. This temple has been under construction for the past 100 years but was first planned out by Antoni Gaudί, one of the most famous figures in the Catalan culture. Gaudί worked on the Sagrada Familia for over 40 years and it is planned to be finished by 2028. Inside the temple there are walls lined with elaborate stained glass windows. When the sun shines through the windows, all of the colors are beautifully displayed on the white walls. The Sagrada Familia was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Spain. After walking around the rest of the city, we headed to dinner and then back to our hostel to get ready for a festival in the castle. See other blog post for details! So far, Barcelona has been perfect.

Vamos a Barcelona!
